GULLAH GALLOP RIDE

St. Helena Island, SC:  Hwy 170 N (to Beaufort). TR on Hwy 802 E.  TR on Hwy 21 S.  From here, it is 4.5 miles to Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. (look for the signs to ‘Lands End’ and ‘Penn Center’) TR on MLK Jr. Dr. ˝ mile, TR into the Penn Center parking lot.                                                                                The ride start is about 40 minutes from the Talmadge Bridge.

Ride Classifications - A/B/C/S

 

A)   Fast:   18 - 21 MPH (Avg. 18+ MPH flat road speed)

Brisk to vigorous riding with above average bike handling skills, expected

cooperative contribution to group within abilities. No sweep, possible

regrouping. Riders are expected to navigate on own if dropped.

 

B)   Moderately Fast:   14 - 17 MPH (Avg. 15+ MPH flat road speed)

Brisk to vigorous riding with above average bike handling skills, expected

cooperative contribution to group within abilities. No sweep, possible

regrouping. Riders are expected to navigate on own if dropped.

 

C)   Intermediate:   10 - 14 MPH

Moderate to brisk riding with good bike handling ability. Some

cooperative pacelining skills required. Riders are expected to be self-sufficient

but there will be some regrouping. A sweep may be appointed.

 

S)   Social:   12 - 14 MPH

Moderate riding with more attention to scenery.

Regroups often. A sweep is usually appointed.

 

Rider Tips:

 

Select a ride that is within your ability based on the ride distance and pace indicated on our monthly Ride Schedule.  Call the Ride Leader with any questions or concerns. Trying a pace one level lower than where you think you should be is recommended for new members in order to introduce them to our rides.  Riders should carry a pump, tire irons, spare tube, patch kit, tools, money and health insurance card on each ride  All riders in the club must wear an ANSI, SNELL and/or CPSC approved helmet throughout a ride.  All riders should bring one or two water bottles with them on a ride

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 AM

Hunter AAF Rides

The Tuesday/Thursday 8:30 a.m. group at Hunter Army Airfield Base has dwindled.  We are leisurely, but get in 12-30 miles with a social break at the Golf Clubhouse where we solve the world's problems.  Allow a few minutes for the MPs to check your Driver's License, Insurance Card and vehicle registration at the gate (entry by bicycle only requires your picture ID).  Go to the parking lot across from the gym one half mile inside the Montgomery Street gate.  For more information, contact Bill and Diana Gladden at 912-236-0216 or via e-mail at wgladden@bellsouth.net.


Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 PM

"Wheelman" Rides - Meets at Shell Station at I-95 Airport Exit - 20/40-mile rides


Wednesdays at 6 PM

"Bicycle Link" Rides - Meets at the Bicycle Link bike shop at 408 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah.  About a 30 mile ride; A/B pace (18-22 mph; no sweep).  John would love to see you come on out.  Leaves promptly at 6 pm.  Call the shop at 233-9401 for more info.


Wednesdays at 6 PM

"Wheelman" Rides - Meets at Georgia Tech campus on Jimmy DeLoach Parkway - Circuit rides (sprints!)


Saturdays at 8 AM

"Gallery Espresso Coffee Ride" -  Leaves at 8 am from the Gallery Espresso at Bull and Perry (Liberty) Streets in downtown Savannah.  Both 30 or 40 mile options, A/B pace.


Sundays at 8.30 AM

"Coffee Bean" Rides -  Meets at Kroger on Highway 17 South (at Berwick Road; back entrance to Southbridge),
